Wedding photographer on Jæren

Jæren is where I grew up. Although I'm now based in the Oslo area, Jæren is the place I know best, and I still come back several times a year.

It's one of Norway's most distinctive wedding landscapes. The flat coastline, the long beaches, the light that comes straight off the sea, and the characteristic stone walls and clearance cairns. It's a landscape that doesn't need decorating to look beautiful. For couples who choose to marry here, nature becomes part of the story no matter what you plan.

I've photographed along the Jæren coast across several seasons and know how the light behaves at different times of year. Summer light at Orrestrand is quite different from autumn light at Obrestad lighthouse, and that matters for where and when the day should be planned.

Locations I know well

  • Obrestad lighthouse in Hå: dramatic seascape, and some of the most beautiful light on Jæren at sunset
  • Orrestrand and Orrevannet nature reserve: broad sandy beach and calm water, works well both morning and evening
  • Bore and Stokkastranden: where I've photographed a wedding before, and which has an entirely unique evening light
  • Jærmuseet and Vitengarden in Time: indoor options if the weather turns
  • Ogna and Sirevåg: southern Jæren, less visited and often more private
  • Undheim and the inland areas of Time and Klepp: farm weddings and barn weddings with Jæren character

If you have another place in mind, I probably know it already or have photographed nearby.

Travel and practical info

I'm usually on Jæren several times a year, both for wedding assignments and because my family still lives in the region. That means I can coordinate planning meetings around these trips, so we avoid extra logistics.

For the wedding day itself, travel costs (flight from Gardermoen to Sola, and accommodation) come in addition to the package price. I always arrive the day before a wedding on the west coast, so I'm rested and ready when the day starts.

Why local knowledge matters on Jæren

Jæren weather is more honest than most other places in Norway. The wind can change everything within an hour. The light is strong, often harsh, and requires a photographer who knows how to handle it. A beautiful day at Bore can turn into strong headwinds and horizontal rain within 30 minutes.

When the photographer doesn't know this beforehand, it becomes stressful. When the photographer knows the patterns, it just becomes part of the planning. We know where to go if the wind shifts. We know which side of the house is sheltered. We know that the light at Orrestrand at half past eight in July doesn't resemble that at Bore at half past eight in September.

It's not magic. It's just years of having been here.

For couples on Jæren and in the neighbouring municipalities

I photograph in all the Jæren municipalities: Hå, Time, Klepp, Sola and Sandnes. For couples planning a wedding at a farm, a beach, or a combined setup across several locations, it's easier to work with a photographer who already knows the distances.
