Although I'm based in Oslo and have deep roots on Jæren, I've photographed weddings in several parts of the country. Norway is big, and each place has its own character: its own light, its own weather, its own rhythm.
For couples considering a destination wedding in Norway, whether you're coming from abroad or simply want to marry somewhere other than where you live, there are a few things worth knowing. The light is different in the north and the south. The weather is different in the west and the east. And some locations require longer planning than others.
Here are some of the places I've been, told through the wedding stories from them.
Tromøy near Arendal: Turid and Erik at Sandaa Hytteutleie. The archipelago outside Arendal, a ceremony under a birch arch by the sea, a micro wedding with around 30 guests on the island. A good example of what the southern coast can be as a wedding setting.
Hardanger: fjord wedding with the mountains as a backdrop. Hardanger is perhaps the most iconic destination wedding landscape in Norway, and is often the first choice for international couples wanting to marry in western Norway. I've photographed one wedding here and know the region well enough to plan new ones.
Averøy in Møre og Romsdal: Marianne and Tony at Naustvollan. A small boat harbour, summer light, and a wedding that was itself all day.

Norway has many places well suited for destination weddings, and I'm open to traveling. Lofoten, Senja, the mountains around Trondheim, Bergen, Sognefjorden. All of it is possible.
I'll be honest: I haven't photographed weddings in all of these places. If you're considering a location where I haven't been before, it's something we plan together well in advance. That means a site visit beforehand where practically possible, extra buffer days around the day itself, and close dialogue with local suppliers. Lack of local experience isn't a problem if it's compensated for with more thorough planning.
For destinations I have been to (like Hardanger or Møre), the logistics are simpler. We can talk about what actually works, not just what looks nice in photos.
A destination wedding is rarely just a day, it's often a whole weekend. Guests arrive Friday, the ceremony is Saturday, brunch or a shared farewell on Sunday. That gives a whole different space to be together, and it also creates more natural moments for photography: guests arriving, the evening before, the morning after.
For international couples considering marrying in Norway, there are a few practical details worth thinking through early on:
The light. Norwegian summer nights are extremely long. In June the sun barely sets in the north. That offers extraordinary opportunities for photography, but also requires the whole day to be planned differently than you might be used to.
The weather. Norwegian nature is unreliable in a good way. A plan B for outdoor ceremonies isn't optional, it's part of the planning. I've written more about this in the article about outdoor ceremonies.
Logistics. Long distances, fjords crossed by ferry, weather that can change flight plans. For couples from abroad, I recommend arriving a few days early rather than the day before.
Local grounding. It's often wise to book a few local suppliers as well, especially a good planner who knows the region. I can recommend people I've worked with before, or help you find someone.
For destination weddings I arrive at least the day before, often several days before if the location is new to me or the logistics require it. Travel costs, accommodation and any buffer days are agreed in advance and added to the package price.
For weekends that stretch over several days, I can join as the main photographer throughout the whole weekend, or just for specific parts of the program. We'll figure out what works best during the planning phase.
