About the Photographer

Helge Meisal

I grew up on Jæren and now live in Oslo. I photographed my first wedding in 2023, and since 2025 weddings have been my main activity. I photograph all over Norway, from the beaches of Jæren to wherever you might want to get married.

What interests me

What interests me is what actually happens on a wedding day. The bride's mother biting her lip to hold back tears. The groom looking at his soon-to-be wife without her knowing. The family's child who fell asleep during dinner. Those photos don't exist if the photographer is too busy moving people around.

At the same time, I know that family portraits, group photos and structured moments belong in a wedding. They're in every gallery I deliver. The difference is how we balance it: clear direction where it's needed, and full freedom where something real is happening.

After the wedding I go through every photo myself, typically between 1500 and 3000, and deliver 400 to 600 finished, edited photos back to you. That gives both storytelling and breadth, without becoming overwhelming.

How I work

  1. I arrive early

Not because I have to, but because I like to walk around the venue before the guests arrive. See where the light falls. Say hello to the family.

  2. Present, not in the way

When the day begins in earnest, I've already landed. I move quietly and stay in the periphery when that's fitting.

  3. I eat when you eat

Most people don't want photos of people chewing. I sit nearby with the camera ready in case someone stands up to give a speech.

  4. Everything goes through me

I go through every single photo myself. Editing takes around eight weeks, film 12 to 16 weeks.

When there are two of us

In every package I bring a second photographer. Usually it's my partner Lisa, whom I know well enough to know how she works and where she positions herself. When she's not available, I have a network of colleagues I have an arrangement with.

The photo and video package requires two people because one person can't cover both formats well at the same time. On pure photo packages, it means more angles, and small moments being captured in parallel.

Are we a good fit?

I don't accept every inquiry. Not because I'm demanding, but because it works better for everyone if we actually fit together, both stylistically and personally.

Maybe not me

You're after dramatic, tightly edited editorial photos and a photographer who directs you through the day like a film director. Then there are other skilled photographers who'd be a better match.

Probably me

You want photos that feel like a day you actually lived, rather than a day that was photographed. Then we're likely a good match.

Let's talk

Coverage and travel

I live in Oslo and work all over Norway. Outside Oslo and the surrounding area, travel comes in addition, and I always arrive the day before. In Jæren and the Stavanger region, I'm happy to combine the trip with the planning meeting.
